Photo of Glas-Col VentSep Separatory Funnels

VentSep, a special 1-liter or 2-liter separatory funnel with a built-in relief valve, can be used on Glas-Col's Bench-top Shaker or either of the Glas-Col 3D shakers. That means you can shake up to eight 2-liter funnels or ten 1-liter funnels at once without worrying about pressure buildup. What's more, VentSep features a screw cap instead of a penny-head stopper. As a result, VentSep is safer to use in the laboratory because the screw cap doesn't need restraining and won't come off at inappropriate times, though it will come off easily when you want it to.

Glas-Col's new separatory funnel is designed to offer a new level of convenience and safety when used with Glas-Col shakers. This funnel has a screw cap with a PTFE resin lining to reduce the possibility of contamination. The drain spout is a screw-on PTFE resin design which reduces the chance of breakage and allows for easier cleaning. When used with Glas-Col's new pressure relief valve (S2214F-7, -8), it offers the convenience of self-venting for applications where pressure build-up is a concern.

These PYREX® pear-shaped glass separatory funnels have PTFE (Polytetrafluorethylene) stopcocks and Standard Taper polyethylene stoppers. The stopper is made with a closed bottom and is of linear high density polyethylene to conform to Standard Taper stopper dimensions. The PTFE plug fits into the micro-finish barrel. These PYREX® Büchner funnels are especially useful where filter paper would be attacked by the materials being filtered. The disc should not be subjected to pressure differential in excess of 1 atmosphere. The top edge is beaded. These funnels are available in three different porosities of PYREX® brand fritted ware so that precipitates varying in size can be filtered at maximum speed with no sacrifice of retention. Porosity is controlled in manufacture, and discs are individually tested and graded into these classifications.

Gradually tapering shoulders and a wide neck facilitate cleaning. Sharp separations are provided for by a narrow bore in the body just above the stopcock. Stem length is 175 mm. Kimble 28900 KIMAX Long Stem Filling Funnels with 58° Angle and 150mm Long Stem are constructed with heavy uniform walls and strong, molded rims. Fire polished stems give a long service life. Funnels have a high resistance to chemical attack and mechanical and thermal shock. The 58° funnel angle is a Kimble exclusive, formed to an exact angle for rapid filtration. A piece of filter paper, when folded to form the filtering cone, forms a precise 60° angle. If the funnel is also 60°, as are the vast majority, then the only effective filtering area is down near the tip.
